Perceptions of Chileans on Digitalization: A National Survey on Their Attitudes and Aspirations

The recent study, commissioned by We Are Innovation and conducted by Vota en Línea, unveils fascinating data about the attitudes and aspirations of Chileans in relation to digitalization and innovation. One of the most striking findings is the Chileans’ attitude towards innovation. A resounding 76 percent oppose government prohibitions or limitations in this area, demonstrating strong support for freedom in innovation, which promotes the adoption of emerging technologies and new business models. Furthermore, the support for the digitalization of government procedures is overwhelming. 92 percent of respondents are in favor, suggesting Chile is ready to move towards a model where the government operates as a service.

Regarding Artificial Intelligence (AI), a general atmosphere of optimism is detected. Despite concerns about automation and its effects on employment, most Chileans view the coexistence with AI in the work environment with hope. However, it’s important to note that women tend to be more cautious in their perception of this issue. On the other hand, concerning work culture, 31 percent of Chileans are already adopting remote or hybrid work models, marking a transformation in the country’s traditional work dynamics. In fact, only 1 percent claim not to be interested in exploring telework modalities.

However, challenges remain. 37 percent of survey participants feel that political leaders do not provide the necessary support for innovation and digitalization. This perception underscores the need for more proactive policies in this area and could serve as a wake-up call for the country’s leaders.

The results of this study reflect a promising landscape in terms of Chileans’ receptiveness and adaptability to digitalization and innovation. These findings undoubtedly highlight the direction and aspirations of a society in evolution. However, they also call for action for political leaders and decision-makers to recognize and support this momentum towards the future. Appropriate measures must be taken to ensure that digitalization and innovation are viewed with optimism and effectively integrated into Chile’s socioeconomic fabric, benefiting the entire population.
